I have 12.6 V supplied to my circuit by a Li-Ion battery. I also need to generate a negative 12 V. Could someone please advise how this can be achieved?

 

You need an inverting switching regulator:

The voltage is set by the ratio of R1 and R2, so it should work with a 12.6V input.

If you have an extra 12 V battery, just reverse the connections to the battery, i.e. positive terminal goes to GND.

Why avoid the H bridge, seems the easiest solution.

 

Does reversing the current through a solenoid makes the solenoid eject?
I don’t think so unless the bar is a magnet.

I believe it's a Latching type.

 

How about a relay to reverse the connections?

 

That was one of my thoughts as well but why use a relay when there is a H Bridge already being used.
