In an earlier post, I referenced questionable web "experts" on getting something done: https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/...k-at-the-mercy-of-others.151620/#post-1300382 The problem was changing spark plugs in a 2007 F-150 with the 5.4LTriton "Modular" engine. Mileage = 42,000. That problem affects various Ford vehicles from 2004 thru 2008.

I am here to say I followed the Ford Technical Service Bulletin on said subject, except I replaced FoMoCo brand products with generic equivalents (e.g, carb cleaner and PB Blaster). All plugs were removed without breakage. There was carbon/varnish build-up on the back 4 plugs. Replacement plugs were SP546 (installed to 25 ft-lb) and COP's were Prestolite. Runs nicely. Tomorrow, I need to check what may be a radiator core leak. Love my FORD (Fix Or Replace Daily).

ONE KEY IS ONLY PARTIALLY PROGRAMMABLE

I didn't expect to have a follow-up, but discovered something with my keys that might be of interest to others. Not
directly on topic for the referenced thread, but may be of interest to other Ford owners. Hence the update. Brief history:
I bought the truck from a dealer as used with 30,000 miles. It had two keys, and I asked for a third, which the dealer
provided. That key was not programmed, and I left it that way until last week. I have lost track of which key is which, as
I didn't expect this issue. The original two keys both worked fully (see below) initially.

Key A
Label: FoMoCo A2881
3B:2L3T-15K601-AB
4B:2S4T-15k601-AB
Plus, FCC and Canadian numbers included. This key works for windows and motor starting. Used as "master."

Key B
Label: Ford Motor Company
2L3T-15K601-AA
Plus FCC and Canadian numbers same as Key A. This key also works for windows and starting.

Key C
Label: FoMoCo AC2881
3B:2L3T-15K601-AB
4B:2S4T-15K601-AB
Plus FCC and Canadian numbers same as Key A. This key only works for windows. Will not start motor.

Based on the similarity of the labels and numbers, I am assuming that Key A and Key C are the originals that came with the
car.

I have repeated the programming sequence 3 times. The last two times, I reversed the order of programming Keys B and C, but
still get the same results.

Ford fob's have a battery (CR2032 type). Thinking that might be the problem, I replaced the battery in Key C with a new battery. Same results, even after reprogramming a 4th time. BTW, replacing the battery does not seem to erase any existing code. The bad key acted the same after replacing the battery and before reprogramming.

Any advice? I would like 3 keys that worked. Maybe, Ford added this feature to prevent hijacking?[/sarc] For others, maybe it is good to keep two keys handy, just in case.

John

PS: I considered using Key C as a master to reprogram the others, then decided I needed a Ford that at least would try to start.
