I'm a musician myself, I've been playing the guitar since I was 6, and this sort of interview (more like an "Historical experience") left me speechless:

Beastie Boys & Star Trek.

You are such a geek.
Yes, most of us are. I remember when that R&R cassette tape was only connection between me and 10,000 miles away.
We had some guys that could jam.

My favorite geek-out, as far as soundtrack music goes, is from the Vegas episode of Stargate Atlantis, especially Johnny Cash's cover of Solitary Man at the end.

I can't find a decent video to post, so you'll just have to watch the episode on Amazon.

Season 5 Episode 19.

A most interesting band I stumbled across a few months back while watching other videos on YouTube. The first video is an instrumental piece that is pretty amazing by itself and the second video is the whole group. It's one of those things either you aren't interested, or you spend the next four hours watching videos.

A hard rock band from the 1970s with connections going back to several 1960s bands in the UK including Pink Floyd. They are under appreciated in the US, but were huge in Britain and Europe, the legendary "Lemmy" joined them before being kicked out later.

Their music had a dystopian kind of science fiction, space, futurism theme, many of their fans were acid heads but all said and done they were a first class rock band, here's one of my favorite Hawkwind tracks live from 1972, with Lemmy on vocals:

Album covers were superb, especially to me as I was learning science and electronics:
