Movies that make you smile?

What makes me smile about this camp satirical movie is the total disregard of the source material book and its society. The rhetoric throughout is unmistakably fascistic only because Paul Verhoeven made it so. I don't think Paul Verhoeven even read the book and used only the title. The movies was an unsung campy sci-fi crappiece not misinterpreted. Verhoeven took a classic sci-fi book full of good irony and satire and butchered it with poorly executed anti-war satire. The co-ed showers in the future was pretty cool and it's a shame Denise Richards wasn't in that.:(

The anime from 1988 was better.

I like Marat/Sade, partly cuz o' the title (the full title, that is)
And in what other movie do they sing The Copulation Round?
Not really a smiley movie though - for most people.

Regrettably, the only DVD version I have seen has terrible audio and video quality. It's been so long since I've seen it in a theatre that I don't remember if the film was any better.

The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade

oder auf Deutsch: Die Verfolgung und Ermordung Jean Paul Marats dargestellt durch die Schauspielgruppe des Hospizes zu Charenton unter Anleitung des Herrn de Sade

An Amazon seller claims to have a better transfer. Read the first couple of reviews.

I know that (most of) you are adults, but if you can handle an animated movie, Coco was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It will make you smile, and unless you're a robot, it will also make you cry.

I just read over Coco and it seems very close to "The Book of Life" which I liked very much. Story line and everything...

Smile and cry :)
As I started watching Coco I felt like it was a blatant plagiarism of The Book of Life. But that soon wore off as I watched. The soundtrack to Book of Life was better IMO, but I like the story of Coco better.

I like both movies, and I guess there can be room in the world for two movies about Dia de los Muertos, just as there are many movies about Christmas.

If we are on animation...

"The Adventures of Mowgli" - old soviet animation is excellent and well worth watching. It is a great movie for all ages as it stays true to the book and shows the struggles of growing up and being human. It still is one of my favorites. I am not sure if children of today can watch something like this though. Today's world is in a sad state and I am anticipating a Jungle Book remake where a girl is found in the forest instead of a boy...

I'd qualify during winter, don't do much but turn on the TV for noise while I study.

Watched a film "The Book of Brian" starts out slow but picks up later. The story is very telling, I'm a firm believer that people get what they deserve in the end.

I don't have to deliver justice, I'll leave that to destiny, she's a bitch and serves her justice on a plate gone cold.

I got some real good laughs out of an old movie I hadn't seen for a while the other day. It's the best air force movie ever made. Maybe it was because I was in the service at the time.

Flight of the Intruder. I always thought it was better than Top Gun.

Of course "Cole" steels the show.

A very good movie indeed, and I don't mind watching it. The emotions are all over the place.
