motor control with reset button

Hi guys

i have a Bin tilting machine that i need to upgrade for better operation. How the machine works is through an up push button, down push button and emergency stop. Both of the up and down buttons are latched and when the bin reaches a certain height it tilts and then stops until the down button is pressed and the carriage returns to the home position and stops by itself. The problem is that every so often this machine is hit with passing forklifts andcauses the machine to get out of alignment even though there are guards in place! What i want to do is put in a sensor (which i have attached a link for below) so that if the carriage is out of alignment and meets the sensor it will stop the motor. I was also thinking of putting in a reset push button that has to be held while the up or down button on the lifter is pressed so the sensor is off and the carriage can clear it. I have some of the circuit figured out as in i have bench tested a contactor with my sensor and it stops as soon as i block it but im not sure how to intigrate the reset button into this circuit. Also i haven't looked too much into the control of the bin lifter itself yet but i am assuming that it is starting and stopping on timers as this is a really bog standard machine and there are no high or low limit switches fitted either

That is a retro-reflective sensor so it has to be aligned with reflector disc, are you sure this is the right application for this sensor?
What you need is a schematic of the present system and/or your proposed changes, the best way to detail the project is by ladder logic schematic.

Hi Max

the sensor is operating fine when i put my hand in front of it and wont start the contactor again until i move my hand away from it which is what i want to happen so from that point it is working i will try get a schematic together for it. But would my reset not be a NO push button in series with the holding circuit?

i tried to work the reset button into the circuit and when i get it to what i need it to do the stop button no longer works! i am just bench testing this circuit at the moment with a start stop and e stop
