Probably the most common 11 pin relays ( octal format ) are made by Omron, Shrack and Finder.

I was wondering which make has the best reliability among the common makes. Unfortunately Google does not seem to give me any very helpful answers.

I was thinking that anyone who works on the maintenance of signaling or similar equipment may have comparative experience of the reliability and could give useful information.

I do not get involved with much equipment using these kind of relays myself. But looking at the design and materials used in relays makes me come to a conclusion that Finder relays often look the best made.

But does anyone have any views?

Reliability would depend on the circuit they are in and the data sheet of the relay itself. Data sheets will specify number of operations at rated loads and construction details. You then have to know the loads on the relay. Only after that can you look at vendor quality control and reliability. Name brand relays are usually the best, and market share ”may” indicate consumer trust in their brand.
What may be a reliable relay in one circuit may fail prematurely in a different one due to different loads.

 

Simple Omron, has been the best for me.
I pick for the load one that is rated higher. I use a 10 amp that switching a 5 amp load. The rate of switching is about 170,000 a year they last about 4 years

 

I seems that the TS is asking about those relays with the keyed, tube style round plug in base. If that style is open frame relays then dust on the contacts will be a problem as well.

 

VERY rare to see the plug-in based 8-pin/11-pin socketed relays not protected by an integral cover.
I have also used Omron for some decades now, with little problems, the art is to used them well within their capabilities.
