Hello,

The post #38 is not for this site, but to show how the other site is using the levels.
The levels are used at this moment at the UK Vintage Radio Repair forum.
I just read they added two more levels:
Klystron - 5000
Magnetron - 10000

I am very happy with the use of the levels over here.

Just to let u know that I too feel that AAc should have the level designation.
Anything but the current one.

IMO AAC should decide a member designation based on the member's knowledge on Electronics/Electrical and experience plus how well that member can contribute to the forum

Like Phoenix rising from the ashes - the thread lives on!

May I respectfully ask why some members are apparently disenchanted with the current system of membership level?

What can I say... Even though I 'm a big fan of leveling and RPG gaming, I don't want to see the AAC forum as a ground of (even friendly) competition, but rather as a congregation spot for friendly exchange of ideas, just for the sake of it.

In short, I 'm against any change in the title system. What can be changed anyway? Adding more ranks? What does that add to the idea behind the ranking system?
What I would understand is if the Mods and the Admin to assign more special titles to the members that they think have contributed the most. Of course, that would require a very firm and confident policy from their part.

The user titles are just a built in part of the forum software. They can be made to say whatever else for phrases is all. It runs off post count by default. That's probably the only reason that user titles exist here.

What about the forum leaders section?
After someone like wookie has, say, over 1000 posts you could add them to that section.

Or give them the title helpful member or something, less of a title and more of something as a thank you on more of an individual basis.

Just a thought.

I don't want to publicize the title of the post because I'm not here to demean anyone. Lets just say that it's a current topic that involves over current protection. For certain, this thread is not the first senior posting that's raised my eyebrows. Anyway, after reading the OP's comments and seeing that he's a senior member, I was curious about AAC's ranking criteria. That's when I found this topic. After reading through this thread I guess what I was going to ask has been answered satisfactorily.... I think? If not anything else, it certainly follows the current mindset in our schools where they've argued that marking poor grades in red and recognition of one student over another makes little Johny feel bad.

What do you want to say? That we should punish bad posting? Here of all places we accept other people's mistakes and try to correct them, through well-established proof.

I don't, however, mean that anyone should claim things, without taking responsibility for his words.

I believe I was quite explicit and I don't believe it requires any further reiteration. However, I don't have a clue as to what you're referring to.... Punish who and for what?

I hope a moderator will not see fit to remove this comment too.

If you see incorrect or misleading information being posted, that is the place to speak up. We are a community. No one, including the moderators, is right all the time. As community members, however, I feel it is our responsibility to correct information that is wrong and misleading and is related to the main subject at hand. That doesn't mean correcting every error, because many errors are simply inconsequential to the discussion and are more likely the result of carelessness by the writer than lack of knowledge.

I don't have a clue as to what you mean by that comment. The membership levels at AAC are not designed nor intended to imply any level of competence. They are participation levels, period. There are no perks associated with them. Again, it is a community. Some people have lived in the community longer than others. That's all. It certainly has nothing to do with making Johny fell good, bad, or indifferent.

I've been posting for so long that my title should be changed to "Senior Moment".
Is this gonna be you in a couple years wookie? :D
A little old lady bought her groceries, and was bringing them to her car, when she spotted four men about to drive away in it.She dropped her groceries, drew her handgun and shouted," I have a Gun! Get out of the car!"Needless to say the 4 guys jumped out and ran like crazy. The lady somewhat shaken loaded her groceries in the back of the car, and got into the drivers seat. She was so shook up she couldn't get the key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then realised it was for the same reason she had wondered why there was 2 packs of beer, a Frisbee, and a Football, on the front seat. A few minutes later she found her car Five spaces down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the Police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a carjacking by a little old lady, with white curly hair, carrying a Large hand gun. No charges were filed. Moral of the story? If you are having a senior moment make it memorable!
