Whats the cause for such a very small amount of current thru C1? The drain has much more going thru it.

Measure the Gate to Source voltage, see what you observe in the actual Gate to Source voltage.

Look at this image, the Gate voltage sweeps from 0v thru +12v, note the Gate to Source voltage.
The FET is not being biassed fully ON,
