I agree with the notion that this is the future. The smartphone that most people now carry around with them is far superior to computers we were using not that many years ago. They have more than adequate power to fill the needs of casual users. It's silly to have to buy a computer for home just to overcome the still-constrained form factor of the phone. Phones and computers have largely converged but there is still room for more.

I'm happy to see this in other areas also. For example, lab equipment. It's dumb to embed a computer and display inside a piece of equipment and program some half-assed interface when you can take for granted the user will have a fast, up-to-date computer in their hand that they are already familiar with.

That's exactly going to be my next phone, and I'll be getting it within a week...
Did you ever get your S8? Anything to report?

I'm still in love with mine -- well, the undamaged replacement of the original.

Dropped it a few times in its case with no problems.

40 year ago, I bought a TRS-80, and everyone asked the same question.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Hi,

Still have it? I still have mine and it works, but i dont use it anymore of course. I loved it when it was my main computer though and used it every day.

I like Iphones, I sell them near the cost of purchase and insure them with full replacement no charge.

But, I refuse to pay $1000k for a phone, I'm sure it's cool but not that cool, I'm hard on everything so I always get a case and covers for the screens. When I poured Cement last week I blew my Torque Converter, Broke the inside drivers side handle off, and broke the key off in the ignition in one day.

The Uni purchased my first phone, $500 for the phone and pays the bill since I'm on call. I feel your pain the first phone they purchases broke off the holster on my belt and my wife came home and parked directly on top the phone, back then they didn't offer insurance it was out of pocket. Had one fall 14 feet from a ladder while pulling network wire the case saved it.

I can say I still liked my Cricket Flip phone over anything, but just as a phone not for txt or surfing the net e-mail etc.

Yes. But the monitor is on the fritz. Horizontal scan works fine, but no vertical. Someday I'll have you guys help me fix it (I'm not a video/CRT expert).

Yup... I've got two of them, actually. Or rather, I bought one for my wife and the other one for my 20 year old boy (I'm still stuck with my old S7, but I don't mind). And they're both extremely happy with them. They're quite pleased with its speed, and the tools available to manage and edit media, among other things.

In fact, most of the pics I've recently posted in the pictures thread were taken by my wife using her S8.

This is one of them, for instance.

Check all the Solder Joints and Check your B+ in from the Power supply make sure it's properly smoothed, then if you can get hold of a schematic replace all the Electrolytic Caps in the Vertical Section. You could also have a failed Vertical IC but that would be do to bad caps slaving the IC. I'm no expert either.

@joeyd999 I learned a little trick working in the TV Repair shop. Take a Heat Gun heat the caps in the Vertical Deflection circuit if nothing happens then get some Freeze Spray and cool the caps individually. If it expands the line it means Vertical IC is still good and begin isolating and replacing the caps. The Mylar caps most likely are not the issue so stick with the Electrolytic.

It is also slippery and fragile -- which I very quickly discovered. Before I had a chance to put it in its new case, it slipped out of my hands on onto the floor... from no more than three feet.
That's why just I buy cheap phones. Do not regret if I break it.
With $ 60 you probably find the cheapest new Android phone comparable as dimension with your phone.

Compare them to tell me what's the difference.
The speed of the internet depends primarily on the connection not on the type of phone.

I've met a lot of people who buy exaggeratedly expensive phones.
And I asked why? What's got extra that phone?
I received the answer: "it is thinner" After another person suggested this answer.

The problem is that psychopaths want to see the difference between them and us. But they are not attracted to the actual technique.

They have a lot of money, so they are a good source of trade.

Offtopic?

On facebook we often see one woman who puts pictures with she in the mirror and proud of what he looks like.

In the picture usually appears an expensive phone. I do not name I am not referring to any particular fruit..........

Strange, often these women are alone. Why ?
You as a man, you would like a woman who has an expensive phone?

On the other hand, consider what it costs to use a smartphone over its lifetime, say 4 years if you're lucky. If you're paying $40 per month for cell service with data (and many people pay a lot more), the service for your phone is going to cost you $1,920 over the life of the phone. If I'm going to pay almost $2K for the pleasure of the service, it's worth spending a few dollars more for a phone that takes best advantage of that service.

There is no doubt that phones should be more rugged. I simply don't understand the logic of spending so much time and design effort making the phone sleek and gorgeous, but fragile. Just about everyone puts their phones in hideous cases that hide all that design work, hoping to protect their precious investment. Why don't the manufacturers design a phone that includes an integral 'case' that prevents damage? The other thing that users all agree on is that they want more battery life. And yet the manufacturers try to squeeze out every mm and gram, shaving battery capacity as they go. The whole market would love a phone that is 2mm thicker if it lasted hours longer between charges. It would weigh more and be damaged more by a fall, so it needs rubber corners and such. Fine, go work on designing that instead of the stuff we can't even see or use.

I admit I have a weakness for cutting-edge hi-tech -- hell, I design cutting-edge tech myself and my customers are willing to pay for it.

I also pretty much run my business through my phone, including reviewing documents. The display on my S8 is higher resolution than my desktop monitor (2960 x 1440 vs. 1920 x 1080) -- granted I have to use my reading glasses to read the text (or zoom into small portions of the document) -- but I can do almost anything on my phone that I can do on the PC, save for actual design work.

I do ridicule those who spend ungodly amounts of money on those expensive, tiny, low-tech iFruit devices. Once trapped in that walled garden, it's almost impossible to escape. It is amazing to me that Apple can get away with all the incompatibilities with the rest of the world. An iPhone can't even Bluetooth files to a non-Apple device!

Actually, my S8+ looks pretty darn good in the case I bought (photographed with my Samsung Tab S2 which was also cutting-edge last year) :

Apple IS the world. If you're not compatible, that's your problem not their's. :p

So my iPhone practices safe-computing. Sounds like a good precaution against whatever STDs you Android unwashed might be carrying. :D

I'm waiting to see what happens when a AMD processor integrates with a Intel processor. I've learned that such a thing might happen full integration of smaller devices might just change the way we do things.

Edit: I really not be big fan of Apples, it requires some salt. Tastes much better and balances the sweetness.

It's as if you say: The best protection is not to use it.

For Android is developing a lot of software. Why? because many have and where are many ......
Android is a free operating system.

If Android did not have that much distribution due to its free of charge it could not even sell IOS phones.
Some want to imitate the crowd but to be above them.
