Mini WiFi card inside routers

I was just wondering if the internal mini wifi cards inside some routers in s SIL socket can be used for anything.
I know wifi cards are cheap and come in all shapes and sizes but I hate to through away a perfectly good electronics card.
I tried to google it but didn't get much. They all seem to be fairly standard, same connector/interface format (similar to a DIMM/memory).
Probably not worth messing around with it but it is just another hardware hack.
Any ideas?

depends on the chipset. Some you can desolder and use cause the interface on them is uart and all you'd need is the api interface for that chip. Others you'd need the toolchain to modify it to work for your application.. But like you said, when I can order a ten on a carrier ready to be soldered for my purposes and programmed how I want from china for a reasonable price, the necessity for pulling the chip out is kind of moot.

Pulling chips off is way too much work. I was just wondering if it was possible just to connect directly to the mini pci port and use it but I guess not.
