Mini China power supply to replace my benchtop supply?

Hi everyone,

I currently have a Mastec HY3005F-3 30V 5A benchtop power supply.

I use it to run small projects and pulsing circuits operating below 50kHz. It's also used to drive audio transformers. I don't think I've ever used more than 20V and 20 watts of power out of it.

Recently I have been seeing these mini programmable power supplies DP30V5A for $30. Any chance these power supplies could do well for my requirements?

I just need something more portable but I'm not sure how well these would run small low power circuits with multiple ic's?

The DP30V5A is a DC to DC converter so you are still going to need an external transformer, rectifier and bridge that would give a minimum of 21VDC if you require 20VDC out.

Yeah I was going to buy an ac/dc adapter for it.
I just don't know how well it will work as I've heard the ripple was high....I guess O could just add some bigger caps to smooth it out?

Hey I take that old power supply off your hand lol..

The smaller power supplies are going to be smps and they produce alot noise which can be filter with some caps.. Personal I like liner supplies for my projects..

For audio projects the "hum" of linear supplies is a handicap most people skip now that switch mode supplies are so cheap.

Done properly, the hum is not a problem for audio amp designers, but it IS more expensive.

Always remember - $ is the reason why all things change. :)
