I have been buying SD cards and pen drives form china and I am at the verge of going mad with counterfeit products.

I got 32Gb and 64GB cards that does not work beyond the 8GB limit.
Even Pen drives.

I remember removing the memory hacking long time ago but I lost the software. It was years back.
Now I cannot find anything online that would remove the hack and bring the card or drive back to original value so at least I can use the lot.

Any one got any pointers on this.

 

They are 8GB card's hacked to trick OS to think they are 32GB.

and buy name brand local. one of my clients bought some from china cheap with their company logo on them. 8gb and total rubbish.

Formatting does not help.

 

I had the same problem with some cheap ebay mp3 player,formatting the SD card helped me.

 

This is not the same.
I know all about formatting.

 

I've heard that the firmware tells the computer that the capacity is larger, then it wraps the address space back on itself - overwriting existing data when written to.

If so, there isn't really anything you can do to fix it.

 

There are those which can be fixed and this Pen drives cannot be fixed as there are no tools for this flash controller yet.

 

I know all about formatting.

fdisk the beasties

then create smaller partitions and see what you can actually put on it. not forgetting you have quality control parameters to take into consideration.

 

I did and made a 8GB partition. Problem is even then the testing is giving me 150KB corruption

Your pen disk most likely has 2GB inside.

 

Just found out about this ripoff the hard way. Bought seven 32 gig Thumb Drives off eBay and by the time I had discovered the problem I had already left feedback and went past the time to file a dispute. Found this very informative site..

Newegg has some interesting combo deals. I have been looking at 3x combo of 16 GB usb thumb drives for under 20 dollars.
