I would like to start a project, however I'm not yet sure with the materials and devices that I want to use. The project's main objective is to create a dot patterns similar to the dice. Instead of having LEDs to display the pattern, the project will push something to create the pattern. Is there a device that produces linear motion when voltage is applied. It only needs to have a push or no push kind of thing, like a relay.

 

How about a solenoid? Not sure what you are doing with the limited amount of information but a solenoid has a linear push/pull effect. How much movement you will need, voltage/amperage/source etc you haven't provided so may need some more information.

 

You can make a mask with 7 holes, two columns of three and one in the middles. Then rotate a drum with black patterns behind it to give the different results. That is a very old-fashioned type of indicator. John
