I am looking for an audio tuner schematic just for the basics of what I need for the design. I am mainly worried about stereo FM since this is to be used to help with the design and build of a fully custom car stereo system.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I cannot afford to spend the extra time searching for this schematic right now. I have spent too much time already.

Your best bet is in some really really old magazines like Popular Electronics, or Electronics Illustrated...from the late 1960s, when everyone was doing this.

Search on the internet for FM IC's. I recall some manufacturer like National released some very low external parts count tuner IC's a year or two ago.

 

Unless you are looking at pretty high volume, go to Walmart (or other retail outlet of your choosing) and find a sutiable FM receiver, then remove the PC board and adapt it to your needs. It will save you a lot of expense and heartache in the long run.
