the cap went off with a loud bang and one of the 3 wires going to it came out, the plastic shroud also came off. What is the symptoms?
Why do you suspect the cap?
Suspected a fuse had blown, when I looked it was a 5 amp fuse fitted, I fitted a 13 amp fuse on switching the saw on there was a loud bang, on further inspection what I believe to be the capacitor was smoking and one of the three wires going to it had came out and the plastic casing had came off. What is the symptoms?

Take a good, focused photo of the capacitor.
