Doesn't that have a Universal (brushed) motor?
If so what duty does the cap do?
If it was a induction motor start/run cap, there would be many choices.

 

That motor is a universal type, the capacitor will be a mains smoothing type, not a startup cap.
can you take a picture of the capacitor to see what the value is and voltage rating?

 

Or, call DeWalt (=B&D) customer service to find the specs or availability of such. The tool does not work without such capacitor ??

 

Regardless, I would suggest using a motor run capacitor, they are built to last and usually oil filled paper.
The original may have been Chinese origin which are notably have a high failure rate.

 

Take a good, focused photo of the capacitor.

BTW, If it is a Universal (Brushed) motor, then then normally it does not require a cap in order to run.

the cap went off with a loud bang and one of the 3 wires going to it came out, the plastic shroud also came off.

Suspected a fuse had blown, when I looked it was a 5 amp fuse fitted, I fitted a 13 amp fuse on switching the saw on there was a loud bang, on further inspection what I believe to be the capacitor was smoking and one of the three wires going to it had came out and the plastic casing had came off.

 

Take a good, focused photo of the capacitor.

 

Appears to have a GND strap for the third connection.
Dual suppression cap, I would expect the motor to run without it?\
