Li-ion cell to +5V converter

Application: To make 5V output from Li-ion cell (2.7V - 4.2V) with 500mA output max.
Since it is battery powered so Iq should be very small & also board space is constraint.


I have been looking at TPS61200. But its package is VSON.
It is hard to solder by hand so I would prefer SOIC, MSOP or TSSOP package.

You may want to take a look at this. It's a power module already assembled and it's cheaper than the sum of its parts, if you were to buy them separately. It's based on the LM2577, which is a boost converter with excellent characteristics. The module produces 12V, but you can easily change its output voltage by changing a couple of SMT resistors. I know, because I've done it before.
