I have a Phillips 24 inch monitor/tv given to me by a friend that I am trying to repair (model number 24PFL3603/F7). I did the flashlight test on the screen and I can see the picture (well, actually I saw the "no input" message as the tv was not connected to any inputs at the time), so that tells me the LED's are not working. This model has the LED driver built into main power board, so I ordered a new board but it is still not working. I thought the new board would do the job and was very disappointed that it didn't. I'm pretty much at a loss now. If it isn't the driver on the main board thats the problem, what else could it be? I still have the old board and I can return the new one, nut I only have a few days to do it. This is not an expensive tv, so I dont want to put more money into fixing it than makes sense. The board was $20. I think it'll cost me $7 in shippin to return it.

It sounds like your LED backlight panel has a fault. One or more of the LEDs has likely failed open, and like a string of Christmas lights, one failure brings them all down.

If you can open it up and check each LED individually, you might have a chance of replacing the bad one(s).

Thanks. I figured my next step would probably involve opening it up and inspecting the lights themselves. Your explanation using the analogy of christmas lights makes sense. I'll give it a try. I'm just not too confidnent in my soldering/desoldering skills to replace a surface mounted LED.

One step at a time. Diagnosis is probably the hardest step but also the most valuable.
