LED Light Gradient

Hey,

For a display application, I need a strip of leds that exhibit a 'light gradient' effect; when any one of the leds are lit, the light from it spreads out on both sides and gradually fades.

I designed this circuit to do the effect; I also did the simulation, and the circuit did what I needed. The black box in the lower part of the diagram is a decade counter. I just needed your guys' wisdom on this one. Am I over-engineering this one?

No, under ,there are no resistors in series with the leds from the diode outputs, ideally use 100 to 470 ohms.
