Pentair IntelliBrite 5G Color LED Pool Light

Hi I have a failed Pentair IntelliBrite 5G Color LED Pool Light 120v LED board, which I guess is a very common problem due to overheating, my question is the LED board is attached to a copper Plate with thermal pads under mounted to aluminum housing, my question is should I cutout and add another copper sheet under the existing sheet with thermal paste between them? would it help or make it worse? I attached pics.
