Just to check all other wiring remains as is untouched is that correct? just the correct resistor added to the R G B circuit on pin 2 of mosfet?

Actually the resistor can be soldered directly to pin2 as the negative wire on the modules is not used or connected.

Are the resistors meant to be huge they're like an inch (2.5cm) long without the wires! wasn't expecting them to be so big tbh, still I don't mind as long as the do the job.

Yes, 5W resistors are large.

If space isn't available in the fixture they can be mounted externally on a strip board.
