LEDs are a current device. Thy are not a voltage device like a light bulb. The voltage given is just a guess, not temperature stable, and changes from one LED to another. That is why we drive LEDs with current.

Considering that there is an inverse twelfth-power relationship between voltage and filament lamp life, and that most failures happen with the inrush current, perhaps it would have been better if we had driven them with constant current?
