LED burning circuit on Compression Tool

Hi,

Problem: My compression tool started to smoke and lose power last week. After dismantling it seems like perhaps the LED itself was generating the heat, burning both the inner housing and circuit.

More Info: the circuit was fairly dirty when I took it apart, quite a lot of fluff and crap. I cleaned this off with alcohol wipes.

I haven't tried turning it on again since it first started burning.

Reason for Posting this: Servicing requires sending to Germany + big bucks. So before I do, would just like to know if there's anything I can do to remedy it here.

I've attached some (reasonably clear) photos.

Any guidance at all would be massively appreciated.

Cheers in advance,
Jack

What is a "compression tool"?
It's highly unlikely that the LED is the problem, more likely some other component in the circuit.

Looks to me like the LED lead shorted to the PCB or perhaps something else that is no longer in the photo. If the LED still lights, I'd say there's about zero chance that it's the problem. Get those leads clear (and/or replace the LED), and test.
