So I totally agree that's suicidally stupid but just as thought exercise I wonder what current distribution in water looks like if nothing in pool is grounded except neutral and gnd in pwr strip? Cuz o/c most flow is stright between hot and n/gnd but afaik current flow in electrolytes is never completely single shortest path?

The dude resting his arms sitting back for the photo knows nothing is plugged in, until his wife learns he has a Life insurance policy over a Million then plugs the cable in and begins planning her retirement.

You'd likely only be in danger when stepping in or out of the pool and you touched both the water and (real) ground.
If a plug gets disconnected, then the supply side plug will see a massive heating from hot to neutral. If, however, a secondary path to ground exists, like in a poorly installed underwater pool light, the path of the current is a gradient like a magnetic field that gets more intense as you approach the midline of the path.

There are countless reports of kids getting electrocuted in swimming pools and the adult (parent) rescuers noting more nd more tingle from the current as they approached the victim. The human body is much more conductive than the freshwater swimming pool water.

However, the photo in post1 is a staged photo (no current to cord). There used to be a photo gallery showing them setting it up. It took place in Germany in early 2008. I just find a few images online but the photo gallery server is no longer working.

We've had a lengthy discussion about the "toaster in the bathtub" scenario here before. I think the consensus was that it's an unreliable method to accomplish a murder or suicide, but that none of us care to experiment further.

People do die from this kind of thing, but I guess we never hear about all the people that get away with it.

Looks like something from MAD Magazine.

Is this photo real or just staged? Also what is the cord connected to on the table in the middle of pool?
