It's that Season Again !!!

More interesting question would be, what language did your parents speak before arriving in England (or which language did you speak be dire arriving in England)?
American English in each case 'tho I was a bit young at the time (4 YOA);)

What she calls precise...
While precision is hoped for, I call it 'formal'

On a side note : I would love to write like HP does.
I've been inspired to work on improving my writing skills largely from her and a few others examples I see online in various forums. ;)
HP kind of gives me permission to use whatever word I am thinking without fearing that I am the most difficult to read person here.
'Tis always nice to be appreciated!:D

Best regards
HP:)

Children lose their accent very quickly when moving to a new country.
My kids lost theirs in around 9mths of coming to Canada.
A friend of ours married a US serviceman stationed in UK and they had a little girl who grew up with a UK accent of course, after returning to the US when his tour was over and returning for a visit after 2 yrs later.
The young lass had a distinct Texas accent.:)

A London accent with a Texas distortion?
I'm having difficulty describing how bad that would sound.:D
I had a Turkish wife who learned most of her practical english from television and an assortment of people for all over the world how spook english as a second or third language.

The accent was awesome but the apparent understanding of basic word meaning and context when backed by a 'Detonate befor Negotiate' middle east eren attitude that all around never felt anything she knew could be wrong was very tiring to deal with. :(

At least when the daughter got to age 6 - 7 and became fluent in proper american english it became a lot more amusing being seeing a mature adult get 'grammar naizied' (and correctly) by a 7 year old on proper word pronunciation, meaning and context was way too funny! :D

"MOM! That's not how you say that word and that's not what it means either!"

Or my second favorite.

MOM! Really? ... That's not even a word in English or Turkish. You just made it up." :D
