It's an 8A diode and your meter will be measuring the voltage at current which is much, much less than that. If it reads conducting in one direction and not conducting in the other direction then it is likely to be OK. Look at the voltage/current graph below and consider what the voltage would be for a forward current of perhaps 1mA.
