i think there was an interesting resistor with pretty unique markings. not sure if it was measured or replaced. it was stated that it was damaged somehow nut it is not clear in what way (open, short, intermittent). most resistors fail open. in that case it did fail open, one can try removing coating to expose resistive element. then one can try measuring resistance of whatever remained and extrapolate actual value. maybe the resistive element is intact and fusible element failed. whatever the story, 20 posts later i was hoping to see more about it.

 

It started out due to a resistor.
It turned out to be an expensive repair than a mere resistor and a triac.

Resistor is open, that for sure.
The repair cost is not cheap per se, and there is the 220V to 110V conversion issue.
So, it's better to make a new speed control with limited max speed that works with 220VAC.
