For what output voltage? Calculate the power it would have to dissipate.

 

You tube probably they show all kinds looks like a fire to me big heatsink and a transistor

 

Wouldn't a switch-mode regulator be more suitable? More efficient.

Anything below 190V will require the regulator to dissipate a huge amount of power at those high currents.

The point is, that at 200V, drawing 5A through a linear regulator will result in 1000W that has to go somewhere.

That is the reason that HV, HI linear regulators don’t exist.

Edit, 50 volts output still means 750 watts.

1000W continuous semiconductor packaging is pretty specialised.
