Hi, I am trying to diagnose a fault on a large printer, and have found this on the mainboard.

Is this a sign of a short? Or could it just be some flux on the board from production?

I am fairly new to this so forgive me if this is a simple question.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I cannot easily access the other side of it, would it be worth me checking that?

 

It might be what you suggested - just some flux residue but I would take a look to see if it's an overheated part.

 

You could try cleaning the area - isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is the usually recommended cleaner for PCBs.

Thats what it looks like to me to.
Heat it up some, if it smells like cat pee then its those caps leaking for sure.

 

just remove them both, clean up PCB and put new caps in

 

Thanks to everyone for replying - turns out it was just left over flux or something, and the capacitors seem to be ok too. Appreciate the helpful suggestions from everyone Thanks heaps

There is no fault with the board, the fault was with one of the components connected to the board
