I won't get into the topic of climate change itself, but I had to vent my fury!
This morning on the BBC radio news I heard that the UK will set up a special task force in Cambridge to develop ideas for tackling climate change. They explained that the most promising options at the moment are: A scheme to capture and convert CO2 from coal fired power stations into fuel [!?!] and a scheme to try and re-freeze the polar ice caps.

WHAT?! I mean who comes up with this stuff?! Maybe its time to start submitting plans for perpetual motion machines!

How about: stop chopping down the rain forests, plants some trees, and slow down / reverse the population explosion!

Scientists in Cambridge plan to set up a research centre to develop new ways to repair the Earth's climate.

It will investigate radical approaches such as refreezing the Earth's poles and removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

The centre is being created because of fears that current approaches will not on their own stop dangerous and irreversible damage to the planet.

The initiative is the first of its kind in the world and could lead to dramatic reductions in carbon emissions.

Ah thanks @AlbertHall for the link

Ah I just love it...
Capture.PNG

So simple... wow... why haven't we done that before... erm.... oh yes.. aren't they missing something rather important!? Like an energy source?!
All these wonderful schemes.. to extract CO2 from the air... There are 400 parts per MILLION of it in Air.. that means you have to process 1 million liters of air to get just 400 liters of CO2!

The first idea is progressing towards widespread deployment. I've never heard the second idea but I share your incredulity. Did they even hint how that might be accomplished?

Sounds like we're all dead, anyways -- might as well enjoy life while we can. To that end, I consume far more than I need. On purpose.
As a firm believer in ethanol as the solution to the problem I take this approach, too.

First choice is a good Scotch single malt, such as Macallan or Laphroaig.

Second choice is an aged tequila like Patrón Añejo.

Or gin.

"One of the most promising ideas [god help us all] for refreezing the poles is to "brighten" the clouds above them.
The idea is to pump seawater up to tall masts on uncrewed ships through very fine nozzles.
This produces tiny particles of salt which are injected into the clouds, which makes them more widespread and reflective, and so cool the areas below them."

Other such wonderful ideas include dumping iron into the sea to promote algae, sweeping the CO2 under the carpet - burying it...

I really just struggle to believe people are talking about these things.. I mean isn't enough that we have one problem without turning into 100 other potentially far more disastrous ones?!

We already experienced iron dumping locally a few years back

As far as I know it did not help salmon. Situation has been steadily deteriorating and will continue to do so as weather patterns clearly change. You have to be blind not to see it.

From the article:

"One cannot overstate the threat that increased atmospheric CO2 poses to this planet and our society..."
Perhaps. But not for lack of trying.

That is a nice example of lack of context. The full quote being:

"One cannot overstate the threat that increased atmospheric CO2 poses to this planet and our society, but one cannot overestimate the threat to the marine environment through iron fertilization attempts to control that CO2," Coale said in an interview.

"I think it's a legitimate question to ask whether iron fertilization could become part of a portfolio of strategies to remove carbon from the atmosphere. So far, our scientific results would not suggest that is a good strategy."

Coale was among a group of researchers who pioneered what's known as the "iron hypothesis."

Global warming is a HOAX.
Al Gore invented this crap what in the 1980"s (Carbon Credits) to get you to pay a tax on the air you breathe. Since then the likes of people such as Leonardo DiCaprio have placed money in this in order to be like the Mark Zuckerberg of Global warming also known as Climate Change; When I was young heard people say one day they will tax you for the air you breathe......They were right!.......Here's your sign!

The earth was in an Ice age what 12 to 13 thousand years ago ? It's been warming ever since. There will come a time when the cycle changes and it will start cooling again! What they gonna say then ? Oh I know it's because of global warming that the earth is now starting to freeze.
Give me a break.

They'll probably say, "See? We told you so!!!", referring back to the "global cooling" hysteria that was rampant a few decades back, before "global warming" took its place.

I've learned to take ALL predictions of imminent disaster, of any kind, with a BIG grain of salt.

Thank you "OB"
I remember the global cooling era.
This is nothing more than a ploy to take peoples money that don't know any better that to listen to Dumb***'s that try to scare weak minded people that don't know any better or look at the facts.
For just as many of these idiots that say it's happening there are just as many telling you their lying.
