I think in that case you should start playing with the Arduino. Make some LEDs flash and start learning the basics. As you add to your bag of tricks, it'll be "easy" to knock off the type of project described in this thread.

Makes sense. I been wanting to try ardurino and blackberry pi. I've seen some pretty neat stuff done with it.

If you're starting from zero, you may want to look at starting with a kit. I have no experience with any of them but there are many out there and it saves trying to figure out which other parts to buy, and having to wait for orders to arrive. It's like an instant junk drawer.

I intended on getting a kit anyways so I suppose this will give me a reason to go ahead and get it. I can do all this with an automated mechanical switch I just didn't find it as "presentable"
