I'd like to extend/add other units to my door entry intercom. Is this possible? So many questions!

Hello everyone,

I live on the 8th floor of a large block and we have a door entry intercom (no video). We only have one phone in the house right by our door, this is unhelpful as we are usually not in that part of the house and the flat is big. I would like to extend the unit but I don't know how or if it's possible. Do I need exactly the same model (Ritto)? Could I extend the unit to something that allows me to use other units wirelessly? I am interested in the possibilities.

There is a wire running out of the unit. It used to run into our bedroom we didn't know it was for the intercom until we cut it (having checked it wasn't live!) and noticed that the intercom rang when we touched the wires. I don't know if it's only an extender that allows the bell to ring or if the wires would cause another phone to be added.

If anyone knows a thing or two and is willing to talk me through this. I would be very grateful. I wasn't sure if pictures would be helpful but can provide pictures of the unit and its gubbins if that's of any use.

Appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you. :)

What did the "wire in your bedroom that you cut" connect to?? Can you see how those wires relate to the "door entry intercom"? I am guessing that the system also allows the entrance door to be electrically unlocked. So more information will help understand what it is you have.

I had a similar application where I had a remote receiver and keyfob I installed into alarm I adapted for a unit I could carry around from different rooms, workshop etc, in case someone rang the door bell, I picked up a combined key fob and receiver for just a few $ that did the job
e.g. Westek RFK326LC Outdoor Wireless Remote

Hi Bill thanks for replying, I don't really know, that's why we cut it. There was a box on the wall that didn't seem to work and the doorbell company said it had nothing to do with them. It clearly has something to do with the bell but I don't know if it allows sound and door opening or just extended the bell sound.

I wouldn't be messing with someone else's property without getting approval first. You could possibly take out the whole system (for the whole building) by shorting something.

Yes Bob or for the purposes of this thread we could just answer the question and assume the OP isn't a total idiot.

Hi Max! Sorry I thought I replied to you. Thanks for your input. Did your solution allow you to speak via the intercom and open the door?

No intercom, just a notification that someone was at the door!
I used one of the pre-programmable 14 pin voice recording IC's.
Ah okay. Unfortunate as even if I hear the bell in my bedroom, I have the same issue of needing to get to the intercom to answer it and open the door. I can see how that would be useful if you're working in a garage though.
