How do I go about doing that and what do I need to do that?

I don't want to use a screen, the wall itself is painted white.

Very tight budget.

Find a used projector.

 

As mentioned above, you're not going to find any working solution cheaper than a used, rental or loaner projector.

 

For price comparison, a new projector is 100USD.

 

You didn't say the format of your images.
Super 8mm movies, 35mm transparencies, .jpg photos, .mp3, mp4, YouTube videos?

I would definitely look for some reviews on that one, projectors is one area where I suspect you might get what you pay for.

Excellent! They have really come down in price a ton apparently!

 

You might be dissapointed using a white painted wall. Unless it is painted with special paint specifically for video projection, or at least a very very very flat white, the contrast is likely to be pretty horrible.

Not gloss or semi-gloss paint. Either flat or matte. In the context, “flat” is a variant or type of paint.

 

Flat paint will generally not have a glare or hot spot on the screen when viewed from near the projection line as glossy paint can.
