Actually, you could throw out the battery, power the mouse with the pad using a USB connection. That way when you turned off the computer, it would turn off the mouse. You just wouldn't be able to wake on mouse movement.

 

Yes, the big antenna in the mouse pad and a little one on the bottom of the mouse. I may resurrect the idea just because it makes so much sense. I was going to change the battery to a nicd so I could just trickle it all the time.
