I need some help with LEDs

Well, I am a little bit of a newbie with circuits and anything related so sorry because I don't know anything abut it. Well I made a TrackIR for games with a modified PS3 Eye camera and a homemade lens on it to use it with infrared LEDs, looking directly at the camera everything works great and the LEDs are detected and it tracks my head movement, the problem comes when I move my head and look a little bit too much to the left or to the right, the LEDs start becoming less visible and it stops tracking my movement well.

My question is, do you know any trick so that I could make the LEDs more visible from the sides? I read that someone said something about using some sand paper on its sides but I would like what other people have to say before doing anything stupid.

Again sorry for not knowing anything and also sorry if I posted this in a wrong section. Thanks to everyone.

Some LEDs have a diffuse type lens that gives a wider spread of the light.
Can you buy some of those?

Sandpapering the top and sides to roughen the surface should help diffuse the light and make it more visible from the side.

Also could you add some additional LEDs pointing at an angle towards each side?

Put a concave lens in front of the LED.
Put a fresnel lens in front of the LED as used in IR movement detectors - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-10Pcs...155114?hash=item3d3466c3ea:g:CT4AAOSw8HBZHlHY

Well, firstly, sorry for answering so late. I ended up sandpapering them and I've got to say that the result was amazing. They could be seen from the sides no problem, just used a 400 grit sandpaper and worked out great. Would recommend it to anyone, it's cheaper than buying special LEDs that emit in all directions and also cheaper than buying a lens for it.
