How's the weather?

Do you mean I went to transmission school for nothing?

Actually, I heard the same speech before I went to transmission school. I can agree that making a profit on transmission repairs is a failing game but...I don't have the kind of cash flow that says I can drop $3400 on a transmission without feeling the pain. I look at the mule from the other end. I've never spent more than $600 in parts to fix a transmission. It takes me 3 days and 3 trips to the parts store, but it's about $3000 cheaper than hiring somebody else. Hmmm...I can work for $1000 a day and be cheerful about it.

They are generally more skilled than I am. They usually don't have an instruction book in one hand while they assemble a transmission.:p
But they are dirty, rotten scoundrels. They prey on people with no knowledge. I saw them look at a car with a leaky modulator valve ($12, external part) and sell the customer a whole transmission. After I went to transmission school, I took my van to get its first annual fluid change and band adjustment and they tried to sell me a new transmission at two different AAMCO shops. That's three out of three for highway robbery.

Ok, I should have said, "if you ask a scoundrel technician from AAMCO off the record"

I'm not really worried about this transmission. It's pretty new and the fluid looks like brand new. Just, it has a drip, and it belonged to people who probably never found out it doesn't have a dipstick or fill tube because they would never try to find the dipstick. So that's 25,000 miles with nobody checking to see if it's getting low on fluid.:(

A bit of Teflon tape on the drain plug, top it off, and it will probably last until the car rains on the inside.:D

OK. Been working today. Time to collapse and wait for the pain to subside. See ya' later.:)

Just returned from the Imperial Sand Dunes in southern California. The highs were low 80s and the night time lows were low 50s. Wonderful duning weather. But......the clutch in my buggy self-destructed. I limped it back to camp but it had to pushed into the trailer. My wife's buggy continued to function flawlessly and she wowed the newbies and veterans with her skills, effortlessly dancing her buggy up every dune in her path.
Tomorrow I get to pull the engine to get a look at the carnage that is left of my clutch. I hope I don't have to resurface the flywheel.

We had a great time..

It's rainy again in San Francisco.

How rainy is it?

It's so rainy that the Coast Guard had to rescue millions of capsized mosquitos stranded on the beach. :p

Just another beautiful day in paradise. Standing in a garage with the big door open, light flooding in, wiring a motorcycle for a couple of hours without a drop of sweat.
I didn't even bother looking up the weather report. Whatever it is, it's perfect.:p

Here it's been raining down the snow and ice on streets and sidewalks. Pretty good if you don't have to work outside in the meantime... :|

@#12 Stop gloating man ;) It started to snow again here and then rain again, the cycle doesn't end until April perhaps....Hopefully.
Don't worry. In a couple of months, or maybe even weeks, Florida will be back to a heat index over 90 F and I'll be dripping sweat until next December.:(
I just have to rejoice when the weather is excellent. I only get about 4 months of that.
ps, the starter is installed and it works.:)
Also rejoicing the fact that I'm 65 years old and the only help I needed was a ride to the parts store.

I can honestly say that I'm not sure if I'd survive that. I was pretty much always dehydrated while I was in the UK....It was in August...

Everybody acclimates to where they are.
I have spent years in Indiana and California, too. I miss the dryness of California, but I couldn't afford a house there.:(
From what I hear, California has been getting worse since the 1950's. The weather is the same, but the pollution is so bad you can't see very far and you can't breath very much.
Better that I landed in Florida. I sweat like a pig, but the air is clear and the sunsets are beautiful.
Besides, I have an ace in the hole. My day job is air conditioning.

I have been to central Florida twice -- both times in the fall. The weather was great. Did not get eaten by the bugs. :) It did rain for one day in Daytona Beach. :(
