'Just read an interesting book: DARK WINTER, or How The Sun Is Causing A 30 -Year Cold Spell by John L. Casey; time to replace my rotted fur lined boots.
From Amazon:

Casey has studied past solar minimum periods. He argues the last great one sparked the French Revolution of 1789. In Dark Winter, he predicts the new era of cold weather will spark major political and economic upheavals with massive crop destruction, food shortages and riots in the United States and abroad — not to mention significant global loss of life.
I gotta go buy a couple more SUVs to help head this off!

Yes, it can be nice in the winter. My two weeks in Jan there was over much too quickly. The summer in Fl is a living hell.
I grew up in NJ. The winters were much colder and the summers much hotter than here. We get a nice easterly breeze here in the Southeast. Yes, the humidity is higher, but it grows on you -- like the mold.

The summer in Fl is a living hell.
Everybody acclimates. When I lived in Indianapolis, 80 F degrees was sweltering heat and 55 F degrees was the temperature when I started wearing a jacket. When I lived in Los Angeles, it took me a year to quit having the Florida drenching sweats, but then I was acclimated to California. When I was in Phoenix, 108 F was no problem if I could find shade. Now, I'm in Florida. I add extra layers of clothing below 70 F degrees and think, "hot" is above 90 F.

This makes me understand why a sauna is a good idea in hot climates. It feels so much better at 90 F when you acclimatize to 110 F.

Yes, Florida summers suck if you're from Oregon. Oregon winters suck if you're from Florida. The heat doesn't bother me near as much as cold or snow bothers me. All I have to do is think of cold, wet, shoes for 3 months and I am grateful for where I am.

Last July, I worked outside for 50 hours in one week, over, under, around, and through a couple of service trucks. In the end, it's the drenching sweats that bother me. In the summer, I can break a sweat from the front door to the mailbox, about 40 yards! Still, I'd rather be here than any other place, except maybe Orange County, California, 40 years ago, and I hear it's a lot worse than it was 40 years ago. If one of my limitations is to stay in the U.S., then I am as close to paradise as we have.

What's been so bad about the snow in Boston this year, is that it's been coming non-stop. One storm ends and a day or two later, we get hit again. Plus the amounts are unusual. Two storms dumped two feet. And another was a foot. Big one projected for this weekend, after one today (3") and another projected for tomorrow (3"). When will it stop ???
