One more from Donner Pass.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party

The Donner Party departed Missouri on the Oregon Trail in the spring of 1846, behind many other pioneer families who were attempting to make the same overland trip. The journey west usually took between four and six months, but the Donner Party was slowed after electing to follow a new route called the Hastings Cutoff, which bypassed established trails and instead crossed the Rocky Mountains' Wasatch Range and the Great Salt Lake Desert in present-day Utah. The desolate and rugged terrain, and the difficulties they later encountered while traveling along the Humboldt River in present-day Nevada, resulted in the loss of many cattle and wagons, and divisions soon formed within the group

This brought up some memories a story told in Utah about Mormon Pioneers traveling terrible routes. My 4th Great GrandFather just off the boat settled in Navoo illinois after sometime there joined the Mormon Battalion. He served with them until he completed service in California all while crossing similar route. Eventually it would require to walk back to illinois get his family to finally settle in Springville Utah.

Very tuff for those individuals the amount of suffering. Truly amazing the brutality of harsh winters there. Once he returned to Utah now a destination for the settlers was told his family hadn’t traveled with the original group.

The stories written of their experiences at that time were more than my mind could even imagine. Let alone to travel so far on foot to California, Utah, Navoo, back to Springville Utah. No wonder his brother became a shoe maker, you wore them out back then. lol

That was cool and before today I never knew one existed. I have seen locomotives with plow blades but never a rotary system.

You should visit the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn. They have a rotary and large blade plow along with some other really impressive engines - some of the largest and oldest. The engines are with the visit alone. The dynamos, cars, clocks&watches, presidential limos, - anything mechanical - even sewing machines - is was a great day (surprising for Detroit).

That is something I have wanted to see for years and it's not that far for me. Maybe this summer I can get that off the bucket list. :) Several years ago I finally got to the VAVAIR (Naval Aviation) museum in Pensacola, Florida. Planned a day and spent two.

I see you're from Cleveland - Dayton Airforce museum (ok if you ae in the area) and Smithsonian air space museum extension next to Dulles airport (well worth the trip from anywhere).

Yeah, ended up in Cleveland and have yet to get to Dayton. That is another bucket list item. :) Have two sisters, kids and grandkids in Columbus.

Facing a logistics problem here. Running out of places to pile the snow. With any luck at all I figure maybe by June/July my mountains will melt. Thank God my neighbor plows the driveway and I just shoveled my little path to the driveway. Gonna need more salt. :) Keeping in mind we should have been cruising south along Mexico's west coast. This sucks.

You could always try Mexico's mountainous east region instead ... I'd give you a warm welcome... :)
