Las Vegas

Take a walk down the strip today in Vegas because it will be a nice, reasonable 108 degrees today, according to The Weather Channel.

Phoenix

Why not head to this city in Arizona where it should be a cool 109 degrees.

Mecca

It is night now in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, “the hottest city on Earth,” but tomorrow, it will be only 110 degrees!

I should add that temperature records set yesterday were broken today.

I have vietnamese neighbours who were working on their driveway today in that heat. Their only comment was - it is like this all the time in Vietnam...

Dozens of people have died in Canada amid an unprecedented heatwave that has smashed temperature records.
Police in British Columbia have responded to almost 70 sudden deaths since Monday, the majority of them involving elderly people.
They said the heatwave baking the region was a contributing factor.
On Tuesday, Canada recorded its highest ever temperature for a third straight day - 49.5C (121F) in Lytton, British Columbia.

While not as extreme in other parts of the world, Boston is experiencing a heat wave as well. We are on the way to setting a record in June of 90+ degree days. We’ve been experiencing 97-99 degrees for two days now and the weather report for tomorrow is 97 degrees. Locally, where I live the temperature rose to 106 degrees. It’s hot. I became fatigued walking 100’ to the dumpster to empty my trash.

I used to surf. The thing about waves - after one knocks you down another comes right behind it to finish you off. I have a feeling these heat waves are not done with us yet. We still have July and August to get through. Drought, fires, heat; we're in for a rough ride.
Another brutal day here. I’m hearing some concerning news from our prairie farmers that crops are taking a beating. Wheat and canola futures have surged upwards. BC fruit growers are sounding the alarm.

nsaspook quoted: "Canada recorded its highest ever temperature for a third straight day - 49.5C (121F)". Think of what must be going on in Alaska and the North Pole. This kind of heat driving in is also driving the cold further south. Remember Texas? Conversely it was a warm day in Alaska.

Weather patterns have changed. And the ride will just get rougher and rougher.

Last night I spent the sunset up on the deck watching the clouds turn color. It was a beautiful evening with very comfortable temperatures despite the greatly higher than average temperatures.

I grew up on the Delmarva Peninsula and went to beaches in Rehobeth, DE, Ocean City, MD and Assateague Island, VA. At all of these, summer starts at the end of May. By then the ocean water is very much warm enough to swim in and summer air temperatures in June can be hot and humid as well. A few years ago, I took the family to our first vacation on Cape Cod early in June, thinking the weather wouldn't be that much different than home. Yikes! The water temperature was an icy 55 degrees! The air temperature was in the mid 70's which we didn't mind, but the locals there were already starting to complain.

We've learned our lesson, summer doesn't (normally) start in New England until July.

A small B.C. village that endured the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Canada for days on end this week was engulfed in flames Wednesday night and residents were forced to flee, many without their belongings.

Mayor Jan Polderman says he told everyone to leave Lytton, as a fire rapidly spread into the community of about 250 people. He signed the official evacuation order at 6 p.m. PT.

"It's dire. The whole town is on fire," Polderman told CBC News. "It took, like, a whole 15 minutes from the first sign of smoke to, all of a sudden, there being fire everywhere."

I wish it would stop raining. Go figure huh? I guess it's location, location and location. :) Cleveland, Ohio on the Lake Erie shores has a lake with the highest level in its history. We draw billions of gallons of water daily from the lake including Canada and it's still the highest its been in recorded history. My wife's cousin lives in the Arizona dessert and pays less for water than we do, what's with that?

Seriously my heart goes out to the draught stricken west, especially because of the forest fires.

But, wouldn't that be true of a lot of bottled water.

I would imagine you are really paying for the convenience of the bottle and the purification, rather that having to take a day trip down to the river with your tablets.
