How's the weather?

I have my fingers crossed for good weather across the country from mid-May through mid-June. Taking another cross-country Mega Grand Tour: Philly, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Phoenix, LA, San Jose, Portland, Boise, Pocatello, Bozeman, Billings, Bismarck, Fargo, Minneapolis, Madison, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and back to Philly. 7,500 miles altogether (yeah, I'm crazy; but this is how I get my kicks, so don't be dissin' it). By the time I get back home, the only two states in the Lower 48 still on my Bucket List will be Florida and Alabama, which I'll save for another trip.

One disappointment already: one of the most beautiful places on this planet, the Pacific Coast Highway from Monterey down through Big Sur to Morro Bay, will be out of bounds because the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge is out and replacement won't be completed until sometime this Fall. Bummer. I've been down the coast road many times, and wanted to experience it again.

Until next year, I'll have to be content with this pic from my October 2010 trip:

Here are a few for OBW0549. In 2008, I made the trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara by bicycle.

This one is not far from the bridge OBW0549 mentioned.

Here is one of the many irreplaceable works of art that thankfully was not damaged.

I crossed one bridge over a river entering the ocean that had a tide pool full of algae. All of the various colors of the algae, the fresh water and the salt water, just beautiful! Sadly it was a narrow bridge and there was so much fast moving traffic, I did not feel comfortable stopping.

OBW0549 you should give the Oregon coast a try while you are waiting for the bridge to be replaced. IMHO it beats the CA coast. Nd don't miss the red woods while you are there.

Been there, done that-- and it was gorgeous. Back in 2002 my son (lives in San Jose) and I went up I-5 from Sacramento. Along the way we stopped to see Crater Lake on a perfectly clear, windless day:

The lake was as smooth as a pane of plate glass. Magnificent!

The ultimate destination was Mount Saint Helens. This pic was taken from the Johnston Ridge Observatory, about 5 miles North of the volcano:

Once we were done there, we made our way back down to the SF Bay area by way of the Pacific Coast Highway, down through Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

Fantastic trip!

The goal for me is just getting out on the open road and letting the miles roll by, enjoying being away from the crowding, the noise and the urban sprawl of the East Coast. I've felt that pull ever since moving here from Colorado back in the 1970's; until then, I never felt the need to just plain get away.
My parents both worked in schools. One summer, we travelled all the way from the east to the west coasts and back.

one of my to do trips is Atlin, BC. Now while we are in the same province, by car I would have to either take the ferry to Alaska to drive there or go through the Yukon...

I should have mowed the lawn 2 days ago when the ground was still damp and there was some wind. Today I'm chasing the lawn mower around in a cloud of dust the size of a small garage and it won't go away because there's no wind.

Anyway...got up to about 80F today. Still in the dry season. That little dab of rain Wednesday night only made the scraggly winter weeds grow. They make the place look untidy even though the grass isn't high enough to touch the blades.:(

No more mowing until the rainy season...whenever that starts. Probably 4 to 6 weeks. No worries, mate.;)

Snow on the ground this morning, didn't stick but, cold all day. I and my wife sneezed last night at the same time in the morning. It finally stopped but dang.

Just came back from running. Spring is finally in full force down here, and it's not just the weather. I normally run in a linear park (10k total) heavily populated with trees, and tonight was the first time in the year that a huge amount of fireflies came out to show off their natural fireworks skills. Just beautiful.

What's your 5k pace?
Actually, I'm doing 7.5k, not the 10k that the park has to offer .... and I don't run constantly. What I do is I run (not jog) every other 100m, and then walk. That way my metabolism is supposed to burn more calories. The whole cycle takes me about 45-50 minutes, depending on how I feel that day.

Just curious. These days I'm running slow: about 10 minute miles (~6:12/km). I usually run 4 miles daily. Not bad for a centurian, but trying to get my pace down to around 9 minutes/mile.

What's your motivation? Stress relief, weight loss, or just general maintenance?

Those photos do not align with the verbal pictures of Mexico painted by our politicians - something must have gotten lost in translation.
