Hey! You Yankees keep that cold stuff up there where it belongs. It's interfering with my natural sun tanning... Kinda hard to lay on the beach tanning wearing long johns and two pairs of everything! 36°F now... and that doesn't even count what should be the warm zephyr of the ocean breeze coming off the gulf stream which now has to be calculated as wind chill!

so,it's expected to be a fair sales promotion for an artificial sun made by US on ebay or amazon :--/

We could use Fusion power today to generate electrical energy. Drill a deep hole, drop a 10MT H-bomb down into the hole and explode it. Drill and insert pipe to send pressured fluid into the heated voids and cracks. Pump out the headed fluid and extract the energy with a heat exchanger for steam to spin a turbine to generate electrical energy. Rinse, repeat... This wildly inefficient process will likely to be more plausible than the best possible National Ignition Facility Fusion technology.

Widespread freezing rain/ice storm likely heading into Christmas weekend
The timing couldn’t be any worse could it? I know LOTS of you have plans for either road or air travel late this week and into the holiday weekend. Well, it appears the biggest winter storm we’ve seen since the Valentine’s weekend snow/ice storm in 2021 is headed our way. This includes not only the Portland metro area, but likely even (briefly) reaching out to parts of the coastline and down into the entire Willamette Valley. And the Gorge...well, most likely not much will be moving there Friday through Christmas Day. It’s still 3-4 days out, but our models are in excellent agreement on timing and impacts.
I live at the west end of the Gorge. It's time to stock-up for a several day ice event that might also bring power outages due to ice on trees and power lines. Fill all the cars with gas, check the generator and battery bank and check the wood supply for a worse case power outage.
One big question is how much precipitation do we get Thursday night through Saturday? Models are all over the place so we’ll have to wait and see. Generally anything over 1/4″ ice glazing in the Willamette Valley and much of metro starts to cause power outages. Once it hits 1/2″, then things are getting real with lots of limbs down and outages. Here’s the Euro’s guess. This is by midday Saturday. Icy. Then of course there would be more ice later Saturday and Sunday IN the Gorge where temps likely remain below freezing.
This looks real, get ready.

When my son was living in Seattle, I looked up the climate data for it and compared it to Savannah. I was surprised at the data. Rainfall, min. temp, max temp, etc. was all the same. Only Savannah gets all of its rain in short intermittent frog stranglers instead of misting for days on end and the temps were also comparable. The point being that the PNW gets theirs all spread out and we get ours in short spurts! Big difference is all that fog caused by the cold Japan Current compared to our balmy Gulf Stream current.

Damn Yankees sell their house in New Jersey for 1.5 million and move south and buy an equal property for 300k on St. Simons Island and never leaves, except in a pine box. Yankees come south and spend their dollars at Disney World and go back north to their home. The really nasty Damn Yankee not only buys property but gets elected to the local city or county commission and starts passing bills and raising taxes to make it more like where they came from.

Where class sizes are reasonable and teachers make a living wage - and the town becomes desirable because of the good education system and property values go up and everybody thrives.

So far today nice sunshine and a few clouds. Tomorrow still above freezing then stand by. Temps expected to do one of those roller coaster drops. We had planned a trip down to Columbus, Ohio from Cleveland, Ohio about 130 miles to my sisters on the 23rd but thinking maybe we get a jump and leave tomorrow after dropping off the dogs at the puppy hotel. I would rather drive in rain than an ice and snow storm. Talked to a friend in Florida this morning and even they expect 30 degree temps which oranges really hate.

Just finished checking and making sure the generator is working and it's doing fine. Told neighbors if power fails the house is theirs to use and stay warm. :)
