We are definitely getting Tropical Storm winds with gusts up to 60 but not the sustained 100+ MPH. Is it already past you Joey?

Here is what the forecast is for the next few days. And a few more troublemakers already kicking up water in the Atlantic. Looks to be a busy season this year.

And CM there is one shaping up in the Gulf headed your way also...

I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts...

View attachment 185378

The storm dragged these in.
My father was USMC South Pacific during WW II. He once told me you haven't lived till you see a coconut doing in excess of 100 MPH in a typhoon. While I have never seen that I have seen things fly in a typhoon on Guam. Heck, the winds are damaging enough but toss in some debris like a few coconuts and I wouldn't want to be in their path. :) One serious projectile!

Looks like Dorian is skating on by giving us only tropical storm winds. Mandatory Evac was called and some folks said they were going in order to beat the rush. All hotels/motels booked solid all the way up to Atlanta. As they say around here "Plan for the worst and hope for the best." So the winds should pick up around here a bit later but not expecting more than 35MPH maybe higher gusts for several hours. Hopefully, no power outage which is not unusual anytime the wind blows around here.

Down here we've been hit by Fernand. Heavy rains since yesterday night. The menace is so strong that classes have been preemptively suspended today statewide. We're expecting possibly more rainfall than Alex, our last meteorological disaster. This morning I found a leak in my workshop, about 2 inches away from a wall. Fortunately it had only started a few minutes before, and no damage was done. I had to do a makeshift catcher by installing two screws on the wall, and then hang a small rectangular trash bin by its edge supported on the screws heads.... worked like a charm... only bother is the dripping sound it's making as I'm trying to concentrate on my work.

Good news is, it's 21°C out there... a welcome change after endless days of 35°C average... especially since now I can enjoy a warm cup of freshly ground coffee... :)

Raining all day. Multiple leaks in my workshop, dealing with them individually. It's 11:23 PM, and the rain remains copious, plus some thunder here and there.

All clear here except my cousin and elderly aunt from next door came by and while she was here fell and broke her pelvis (not her hip). Luckily even with the mandatory evac, the hospital in the next town was open.

Glad she's being taken care of. My dad was a doctor, and he used to say that elderly people, especially women, usually broke their hips (or pelvis) first, and then they fell... confusing cause and effect.

Yeah, pretty sad when it comes down to that,

Dorian triggers 'panic, pillaging, looting’ in Bahamas
"There's just no way everyone's going to get out," says a woman fleeing Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, adding that people are trying to shoot each other for supplies.

The images I saw reflected pretty much devastation, things were leveled. As to things like looting my view has always been simple, looters should be shot on sight.

There is not much that can stand up to sustained 150+ MPH winds and much 3rd world slapdash construction won't ever survive 50 MPH sustained winds. Most Hurricane-Rated construction standards are for 115 MPH and if they are not truly inspected by a certified building inspector, not even that. Was the same for Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico's disasters. Beach shanties don't survive. Our cousin in Spanish Wells Bahamas says she uses "re-usable" construction materials so they can put it back together after the hurricane takes it apart. And their houses are built on stilts to prevent storm surge flooding. Even that won't stand up to10' plus storm surge. Even here on the GA coast, anything below 15' elevation now must be constructed on pilings with no permanent walls at ground level.

looters should be shot on sight
Someone pulled up to our house (which is boarded up) and decided from all the cars in the yard that maybe it wasn't abandoned. Turned around and left without getting out of their truck. The Sherrif's office warned people about a couple going door to door knocking to see if anyone was home. And we are still under mandatory evac although there are many people I know of who didn't.

I make a distinction in a total collapse scenario. If people are breaking into stores or homes by shooting or threatening owners then shoot on sight but is the place is flattened with food and supplies wasting then scavenging for survival is OK.

Yep, I can absolutely agree with that.

Today's forecast calls for light, followed by darkness after sunset.

Actually, suddenly I find myself potentially under the gun. I'm reworking the landscaping in the back yard with plans to build a bigger pond for my fish. Now I'm looking at a potential job assignment in Wisconsin, which could start as early as next week. That means I have a whole lot of yard work to do in the next few days. And without assistance, that could be a task just a bit too hard for one person. Especially pulling out the old pond and digging in the new pond. I also have the health of fish to consider when making the change. It has to be fast and as non-stressing as possible.
Once again, same forecast for my area. Good news regarding the pond, it is done and the fish are as healthy as a proverbial - um - fish. Also have three new little fishies in the pond along with some decorative plants. Will have to take them in for the winter, but everything I did before the job assignment is finished. Have a few in-door projects to do now; and don't you know - another assignment.

Well, got lots of things to do this weekend - - - once again.
