I don’t see the point of a sine wave generator unless it is good enough to be used for distortion testing.

It’s a question of what you want to use it for. At best the 8038 manages 1% thd. If you are doing anything in audio, then it isn’t good enough, by at least three orders of magnitude.
And if you‘re not doing audio, why do you need a sine wave generator?

I can use it to test amplifier and tone controller as well as alarm pitching, I am learning electronics
You’d learn far more from Linsley-Hood’s circuit, about analogue design and the applications of op-amps then ever you would wiring up an ICL8038 ( and I bet the op-amps turn out to be cheaper).
knowing how to wire up an ICL8038 as shown in the datasheet doesn’t teach you much, especially as it has been obsolete for Years. I know that there are plenty on eBay, but how many are fakes that don’t work?
And in 30 years in electronics, I can honestly say I’ve never needed a triangle wave.
