i don't believe it supports ext 4. the installer should advise you what you can format your partition with. the iso should be bootable, just just boot into that and follow the instructions (unless you are trying something a little more advanced like dual boot).

i take that back, i thought i would try it so i put android 7.1 onto a virtualbox and it runs fine on ext4. it does need some significant resources so if you are loading into virtualbox give it more than you normally would

Would go standalone with no other OS sharing the drive, no virtual box.
I use removable hard drives in a laptop, choosing which I plug in to run an OS, never dual boot. Will try...
