Whatever you do do not short out an un-fused SLA battery, even for a few seconds.
This applies also to all high capacity batteries.

If you feel more confident with a slow blow fuse use one.

EDIT:
My experience in using/charging this type of battery is that in using a series resistor, with the PSU set for the battery voltage at 13.8v[ in your case 13.5v] it will take forever to get to get the battery to full capacity.
Also note that from a charged SLA battery, you will only get out approx 70% to 80% of what you put in.

Sounds an interesting project, let us know it performs in service.

When the SLA battery is not connected to the project, cover insulate one of its terminals.

Hello,

The file seems to be an 3D rendering file.
I had to download Meshlab to view it.

I can not make much of it. It seems to render incorrectly.
Can you post a JPG file of the image?

I use the circuit below fed by a 12VDC @ 1000mA wall adapter. The output of the adapter at Vin reads 16VDC with no load.

hi Robbie,
If you have a bench power supply on which you can set the Vout to 13.5V and the current limit to 1Amp, I would [ and do] use that method,.
If you cannot set a current limit, you could use a 2R resistor in series with the battery +plus terminal.

hi R,
That site also wants me to agree to its T&C's before I download, I do not wish to do that,:)

Why don't you post it directly to AAC, this site. [use Upload a File option]
