I tried logging in (on another computer) -- although it displays a screen stating that I am logged in, I cannot access my 'user panel' (attempting to do so generates an error) AND the fora do not regard me as logged in for posting purposes!

In point of fact, were I not logged in on this machine, I would not have been able to post this message!!!

Please advise ASAP!

I just had the exact same problem which kept me from logging in for the past half hour. I emailed AAC about it using the Contact Us page, and think it may be fixed now.

Thanks! The problem has indeed been corrected! --- I assumed it owed to the 'debugging' of my username problems, however in light of @tjohnson 's info it seems to have been a general outage?

Yep. General Failure happened (for what seems like most of an hour).
Night owls see this occasionally as a reboot at about 1 AM, eastern USA time, but that happens in about 10 minutes.
False alarm.
