Hi guys,

Computer newbie here so hi to everyone.
I've built myself a power supply from an old PC PSU so I have 3 output voltages which all works great. I'm just learning about relays and other components. My question is regarding the following relay circuits diagram.

I understand that when I put 12 volts on the coil a magnetic field is generated and operates the switch, which is normally open.

However I have for pins on the bottom and two on the top, the to bring for the secondary circuit. And two of the bottom four for the coil. But I can't figure out what the other two pins do on the bottom ?

Could someone explain in simple terms.

 

Appears to be a N/C contact pont WRT the common relay terminal?
Strange to have contacts on the top and bottom?

I don't know what WRT means. The relay is identical to the pic I've already posted.

 

WRT = With Respect to.
I mean a physical pic of the relay.

Does the large two on top show any continuity to any of the other terminals?

 

Yes, as your looking at the picture the top right pin on the bottom has continuity with the top larger gold coloured pin.

 

It would seems to me that the bottom connection shown that also connects to one of the large contacts may be for circuit monitoring only?
What function does it perform in the circuit?

No idea it was out of an old microwave I just salvaged some parts to learn about them.

 

Hi Max, I think in this case NC may be for not connected rather than normally closed that you would expect on a relay.

The relay shows continuity to the large terminal but being smaller terminal is the reason I thought it was for monitoring etc.
