Also, to avoid embarrassment, and to give you appropriate guidance, what education level is the course being taught at ... that requires a "homework" of controlling a 5 HP motor. Why not just control of a "motor" first, then extend the circuits capability to higher power ratings? What was the homework in the previous classes that led up to a 5 HP motor requirement. And why .. exactly, 5 horsepower. What is the academic value of such a large beast ?

Tellwisdom, you mention:

Have you had any previous classroom experience in electrical subjects, and separately any classroom experience in electronics subjects? What were they?
thank you sir for this great input,

To the best of my knowledge,Lecturers differ in varying degrees, the One that teaches us circuit theory has good rapport with his students than any other lecturers in my department..i am in my second year in college and the course title for this course is Electromechanical machines and devices.
Yes,i have classroom experience in electrical subjects but i am way too far to the level of people here,i will be happy someday to attain the height of knowledge displayed here.

meanwhile,i understand the rules here,i am not also asking for full answer..a constructive idea/hint would be of great help to me no doubt.
thanks once again for your contribution.

Ok, how much time do you have for this homework submission then? If you have only a week, no can do. 3 weeks, yes. But please list your topics that you have already covered in class, so we can sync to your experience level. What type of lab space do you have? Is this is a theory project only? No circuit required? Only description of the project? How many pages does the instructor want you to generate? Do you need your circuit tested? etc. etc. etc. details ...

two weeks....a week left now,

for this course,we`ve covered;magnetic and electrical field energy and forces, magnetic field, magnetic circuit and electromechanical conversion principles and our next class will be on Elementary linear machines.
What type of lab space do you have?
we have a large Lab space.
Is this is a theory project only? No circuit required? Only description of the project?
circuit is required,i think it`s more of coming up with a working circuit that can control the motor..i don`t think we will be asked to implement it.testing of the circuit will solely be the role of the lecturer.
thank you for the input sir

we have not covered much on this course sir.................the assignment is intended for some research work i guess
This is why it sometimes takes a number of posts in order to find out the level of answer required, no one wishes to talk down, on the other hand providing an answer that is over ones head is equally non-productive.

i understand sir,the contributions so far are expanding my knowledge..very close to understanding the whole concept

In fact, each new poster asking for help may wish to consider summarizing by themselves their level of understanding to allow others who wish to help can tailor their response, or choose to limit their assistance to topics they have time for, and interest in. It was not my intention to talk down, but rather to wake the student up, as I have been time to time, when I asked my professors (Ph.D's with many years of experience), some questions they thought were so basic (in their opinion) that I should know it already .... of course they were wrong most of the times, but occasionally I was able to score some points. In one particular example, after three weeks of research, my assignment in class ( not electrical engineering but a physics based course) when presented was so-so, I thought. Then, the professor called me later that week and showed me a dissertation chapter, pretty old document, with a writeup and full modeling of what I had self-selected as a topic and researched independently. No rewards for guessing who's dissertation he was showing me :) I regretted not asking him about how to do things from the beginning ... he had covered all of the angles over several years of his own research ... 15 years ago.

"The whole concept" covers quite an area!
You normally would start with AC(DC) Electrical theory, once you have this then there are several direction to branch off into.
In this case it might be AC as it applies to 3 ph devices and motor control, the subject of schematic layout and symbols would also follow.
Which brings up the subject of different international standards in symbols and schematic layout which varies slightly between N.A. and the EU. as displayed in the PDF I included in an earlier post.
One useful publication would be NFPA79 which not only shows current practice and regulation, but schematic and enclosure layout procedures, principally for N.A.

the PDF really helped.........it seems the more i go through them, the more confused i become as basically what i am trying to achieve were not connected the way i want them......this ain`t a project, just an assignment,i don`t really need to obey standards.

it is more like drawing up a circuit that one would feel it works when implemented.

As I said, it is all there in the PDF, if you use the examples I ref'd. to you should come up with a basic circuit.
Make an attempt and post it.
