what are the advantages of semiconductor over vacuum tubes???

Semiconductors require less power and generate less heat. Tubes take alot of abuse and are easier to change out of a power amplifier than semiconductors. I prefer tubes for RF/AF power amplification. Size and portability of semiconductors are probably the most notable. A vacuum tube computer that once filled a huge room can now be put into something the size of a deck of cards using semiconductors!

 

Tubes stop working when the little light goes out.
Semiconductors stop working when the smoke gets out.
