I am building scrolling LED. till now i have connected 8X8 LED with 4017 and and uC board only programming is left so, i want to make font for it..
please share your idea for making fonts in dots matrix form....

I would start with Excel, Openoffice or a graph paper and draw each letter. After that I'd place the binary/hex-value in an array.

I understand that you are programming in C, but which compiler are you using? There are several available.

I have not connected display with uC yet, and there are 8 for rows and 1 for column through 4017 and rest of power supply..

Here are some tools that may help you in making fonts for LED Display.
Sometime in past I had made my own tool to make any font to be used in LED display using FreeType open source library.
But you can choose any of the ready made freeware tools available online such as:

You know that there are several free tools for drawing a schema? I's suggest you use one.

Although the schematic is simple, it needs to be done in a proper way. When coding, you will sit with the uC's datasheet, the CD4017's datasheet, and the schema in front of you.

It will also help when you are troubleshooting.
