I have an inverter that has blown 3 SMDs i have narrowed it down to either caps or resistors. Is there any way that you guys can help. These components blew when the client ran their inverter off the car battery when the car was running. So I'm guessing over voltage.

 

Just to clarify it is a 12V 4000w Pure sinewave inverter.

Resistors will have the color code written on them. Caps don't. You might be able to locate the image of an undamaged board on the internet. Good luck if any of the components were caps.

It seems unlikely that that would be the cause if the device was designed for automotive use.
